Layer Roles in PET/AL/PE
PET layer
Provides printability, dimensional stability, and surface strength for the outside of the pack.
AL layer
Provides the main aluminum foil barrier against oxygen, moisture, light, and aroma loss.
PE layer
Provides the inner heat-seal layer and direct product-side sealing performance.
This structure is often specified when transparent film or metallized film is not enough for the product's barrier requirement. Thickness, foil gauge, and sealant choice still need to match the application.
Common Uses for PET/AL/PE Laminated Film
- powder sachets that need moisture and oxygen protection
- coffee rollstock or pouches that need aroma retention
- dry food and seasoning packs with stronger barrier targets
- pharmaceutical sachet projects where high barrier is required
- high-barrier flexible packaging for light-sensitive products
When to Choose PET/AL/PE, and When to Review Another Structure
PET/AL/PE is a strong candidate when the product needs high barrier and light protection. If the project only needs a medium-high barrier with a metallic appearance, PET/VMPET/PE may be reviewed. If puncture resistance, freezing, retort, or liquid packing is important, a different nylon or sealant structure may be more suitable.
- product sensitivity to oxygen, moisture, light, or aroma loss
- target shelf life and storage condition
- whether the pack is rollstock, sachet, pouch, or bag
- heat-sealing condition and packing machine type
- required width, thickness, and roll diameter
- printing design, color count, and artwork readiness
- whether a lower-barrier or lower-cost structure may be acceptable

FAQ
What does PET/AL/PE mean?
PET/AL/PE means a three-layer laminate using PET as the outer printable layer, aluminum foil as the barrier layer, and PE as the inner heat-seal layer. The exact thickness depends on the product and packing line.
What products commonly use PET/AL/PE laminated film?
Common uses include powder sachets, coffee packaging, dry food, seasoning packs, pharmaceutical sachets, and other high-barrier flexible packaging where oxygen, moisture, light, or aroma protection is important.
When is PET/AL/PE a good choice?
PET/AL/PE is a good choice when the product is barrier-sensitive, light-sensitive, aroma-sensitive, or needs stronger shelf-life protection than a standard transparent or metallized film structure can provide.
When should PET/VMPET/PE be considered instead?
PET/VMPET/PE may be reviewed when a medium-high barrier, metallic appearance, and lower material cost are acceptable. It is not the same barrier level as aluminum foil, so the product risk and shelf-life target should be checked first.
Can PET/AL/PE be used for automatic packing machines?
Yes. PET/AL/PE can be supplied as rollstock for automatic packing machines when the width, thickness, roll diameter, core size, sealing layer, and roll direction are matched to the equipment.
